Your Voice is your way to have your say
Do you ever feel like you’re shouting from the rooftops, but no one is listening? Got thoughts and opinions on the issues impacting Australia, including safety, mental health, education, the environment, and much more that you want to share?
In 2025, yourtown asked young people exactly that, and they delivered. Over 4,000 12- to 25-year-olds responded to our call out to grab the mic, have their say, and set the record straight.
Your Voice was young people's chance to tell the Government and community exactly how they feel about important issues. Following our nationwide Your Voice survey, we hosted over 300 online forum sessions to breakdown the results. 42 young people then joined an in-person summit to workshop ideas for reform and devise actionable solutions. A small team even made their way to Canberra to present the findings to Parliament!
Tomorrow is yours, and young people have a right to a seat at the table deciding their future.
How does it work?
This project was co-designed by young people, for young people, and we couldn't have done it without them.
Anyone aged 12 to 25 could take part. We worked with a diverse group of young people from all backgrounds, genders, locations, and lived experiences, including those who have accessed support services before.
Starting with a national survey in stage one, young people could participate in as many or as few stages as they liked; we gave them the reins to build their own Your Voice experience.

We put out the call to hear from you! You told us all about the important issues in your life, your experience accessing services, and changes you want to see. Participants went into the draw to win a $50 Visa gift card!

Let’s dive into the details. Young people joined us for over 300 online forums discussing key issues that YOU highlighted as important in the survey.

It’s time to workshop. We invited a group of 42 young people to delve further into our identified priority areas. They brainstormed ideas, solutions, and recommendations for change.

Finally, youth representatives assisted with developing and presenting the findings of the project to the Federal Government, so your voice can be heard.
Why participate?
Young people deserve to have their voices heard and be involved in the policy and program decisions that impact them.
In 2025, over 4,000 young people from around Australia participated in our initial Your Voice. You told us of the varied and complex issues young people face in all aspects of life. We also heard the positives about services and supports. Best of all we heard your ideas and the impacts these could have.
Based on this, 42 participants workshopped reforms and made eight policy recommendations for the government to consider. Those recommendations include lobbying for early intervention hubs, aligning wages with responsibilities rather than age, reforming income support and allowances, normalising non-traditional models of education, and increasing investment in youth-led mental health services.
“You should listen to young people’s voices more, we have a lot to say and think deeper than you realise. ” – Your Voice participant 2025, 12-17 years old
“Young people are smart, aware, and insightful. Give us a chance and listen to us.” – Your Voice participant 2025, 18-25 years old
