Christmas is a time of celebration, but it’s also a time for giving

yourtown seeking donations of pyjamas for some of the most vulnerable mothers and children impacted by domestic and family violence

“When donors think of supporting children and young people over the holiday season, they don’t often think of the domestic and family violence refuges that are a temporary home for mothers and their children over the festive season," said yourtown Head of Marketing and Fundraising, Tracey Gillinder.

“Often mothers and children come into the refuge and they have nothing. We are currently struggling with a lack of sleep attire, especially fresh new pyjamas at our Queensland-based women’s refuge which provides crisis housing to women and their children who have experienced domestic violence,” said Ms Gillinder.

“Last year, yourtown’s Domestic and Family Violence Service supported 84 mothers and young children (including sons aged up to 18 years)," she said.

“Many women and children at the refuge live with unresolved and complex trauma, compounded and reinforced over time by domestic and family violence. For this reason the location of our safe haven for these families is not disclosed to the public,” Ms Gillinder said.

“The need for brand new sleepwear is enormous. These are mothers and their children who are in survival mode, in dire need of sanctuary and support. Adult women sizes from 8–16, and sleepwear for children, boys or girls aged 1-14 years are most in need. The gift of a brand new set of pyjamas, pretty nightie or slippers can be so beneficial as these items are symbolic of home comforts,” said Ms Gillinder.

The three collection points for brand new sleepwear, with tags included, can be delivered to yourtown locations during the month of December.
