Body language speaks volumes
Creations from the BoysTown Body Language program, using art as an outlet to express deep emotions, featured as part of the Brisbane Festival again this year.
ART. SUPPORT. RESILIENCE.
BoysTown’s Body Language workshops have been operating nationally for six years and were originally developed to give young people the opportunity to use plaster body torsos creatively, using art as the voice to express what they felt on the inside.
BoysTown Arts Trainer Evangeline Goodfellow says some of the people she works with have experienced very serious issues like domestic violence, neglect and substance abuse.
The Body Language program helps participants to break down barriers – to express themselves and their feelings through art – and aims to build resilience and empower them. Evangeline Goodfellow, BoysTown Arts Trainer
Resulting artworks from young women who participated in the program through BoysTown, PCYC, Wesley Mission, Marsden High School and Ipswich Girls Grammar were showcased as part of the Art from the Margins exhibition at Brisbane City Hall last week.
This program is just one of the many innovative ways BoysTown provides counselling and support to young people.
