Congratulations to Joseph Petrizza, a 21 year old from Smithfield in South Australia who has been recognised at the 2014 Adult Learners’ Week awards.

TRAINING. SUPPORT. EMPLOYMENT.

The Adult Learners’ Week awards celebrate students and educators in South Australia who have overcome social or economic barriers on the path to training and employment.

For Joseph – now a full time employee with BoysTown’s Social Enterprise Program in Adelaide – community education was just the first step into a new life of ongoing learning and full time employment.

Education has been life-changing for me. I’ve gained skills for employment and benefitted from strong male mentors, something I had never had. Joseph Petrizza, SA Adult Learner of the Year

South Australian Employment, Higher Education and Skills Minister Gail Gago said the winners were inspiring examples of dedication and perseverance.

“I applaud these individuals who have taken the sometimes daunting first step into learning later in life, as well as the educators and program developers that guide the way to new skills and mentoring.”

“The State Government will invest more than $1.4 million in adult community education each year until 2016-2017, for formal and informal learning, delivered by organisations that are not-for-profit and community based,” Ms Gago said.
