BoysTown trainee a finalist in Queensland Training Awards
Congratulations to Indigenous Youth Careers Pathway (IYCP) program trainee Cheyenne Downey, a finalist in the 2014 Queensland Training Awards.
TRAINING. SUPPORT. EMPLOYMENT.
Cheyenne was a finalist in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year category of the 2014 Queensland Training Awards announced at a presentation ceremony last month.
Part of the BoysTown IYCP program, Cheyenne completed a Certificate III in Business Administration and undertook her work placement at BoysTown Kingston.
IYCP aims to inspire and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander secondary school students to complete their education and make the transition to further education or work.
Cheyenne's training and work experience gave her the confidence to apply to become Kingston State College's Indigenous Leader. As the 2014 Multicultural Leader for her school, she is responsible for advertising all upcoming Indigenous events to students and is the main link between the Indigenous community and the Indigenous students at Kingston College. Cheyenne’s future plans include going to university to study law. The IYCP program is only one of the many ways we are helping people to change their lives and create brighter futures.
