BoysTown runs to help shine a light on domestic violence
A team from BoysTown recently joined more than 100 runners to shine a light on the issue of domestic violence as part of the Darkness to Daylight Challenge.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
The inaugural charity event, organised by Minter Ellison Lawyers and Australia’s CEO Challenge, involved an overnight 110km run. Each kilometre represented a person who had lost their life in the previous year to domestic violence.
Night time is the least safe time for people in a violent relationship, which is why runners participated in Brisbane’s first ever night time event.
BoysTown’s team of seven included two runners who covered the last 10kms of the event and some enthusiastic walkers who joined in for the final 3kms.
Every day BoysTown works with women and children who have experienced domestic violence at our family violence refuge.
Last year we helped 72 mothers and their 166 children regain a sense of control over their lives.
Our refuge is 100 per cent funded by BoysTown and you can help by donating now or by raising awareness of our need for support. That’s as easy as sharing an update on Facebook or just telling your friends and family.
