Our Balgo site is isolated, it’s hot, it’s dusty and there are challenges, but that’s what making a difference is about.
 

IMPROVING LIVES

At Balgo, in remote Western Australia, we strive to engage and connect with the children, young people and families living in the community.

Each morning young mothers and their children come together at playgroup to have fun but also to learn.

In the afternoon, women join in on activities that include art and sewing, creating traditional Aboriginal artwork like ‘Balgo Silks’ that are sold across Australia and internationally.

In the Trade Training Centre, young people are developing construction and other vocational skills. These skills are put to good use in the community.

Recently the team from the training centre assembled toy kitchen furniture for the playgroup. They built a microwave and brought it over especially gift wrapped for the children.

I don't know who was more excited, the kids or the boys. They were grinning from ear to ear when they saw the kids playing with it. The kids clapped and said thank you and you could see the boy's chests puff out as they headed back to the training centre. Amanda May – Balgo Worker

Building a sense of pride and community spirit and being prepared to work towards improving the lives of others is what BoysTown does. We are so proud of the work being done in Balgo.
