TAKING ON THE BIG ISSUES

Our domestic and family violence service for women and their children can accommodate up to seven families at any one time.

We can accommodate large families (of greater than six people) including adolescent males. Families stay within the refuge for up to 12 weeks and receive supportive case management, therapeutic counselling, workshops, links to health and legal services, training and information on life skills, and support to find independent housing.

Some of the women we help may have been isolated from their own families either as a result of the violence or from moving into a refuge. Their confidence and self-worth can be severely impacted.

The refuge aims to provide a place of safety, both physically and emotionally, where the women can regain a sense of control and set a renewed direction for themselves and their children. Our refuge workers develop relationships of trust with the families, respecting their decision-making while reinforcing the need to maintain safety.

Today is the first time I have been involved in any Easter activities with my children in the lead up to Easter, and then enjoyed an Easter hunt with my kids. As a child, I never had any opportunities to be involved in Easter. This made it more special and something I will continue when we move into our new life away from the violence.
