Parenting program proves worth

Being a parent is a difficult task, especially when you’re very young and facing educational, financial, social, physical, and emotional challenges.

Our young parents programs are centres for personal development and empowerment for young Mums and Dads and their children. We support them to reach their full potential.

Michelle* left home at 12, had her first child at 16 and by 21 she was isolated at home with an abusive partner and three children when she joined our young parents program in Deception Bay.

“It wasn’t until I came to BoysTown that I knew I was doing a good job as a Mum; they made me proud to be a Mum.”

I have so many connections now and because of the help BoysTown has given me I am now trying to help other young mums in the community. Michelle.

Today, Michelle’s future is bright. She has completed an art course and been back to BoysTown to facilitate an art program for other young mothers and their children.

We will continue to encourage, value, respect and celebrate young parents and their families. Last year we helped 104 young parents and 119 children in Queensland and South Australia.
