Perseverance pays off
Working with BoysTown is not just an outcome - it is part of a life changing process for young people...
TRAINING.SUPPORT.EMPLOYMENT
Joe* had been unemployed for four years and was being supported by the team at BoysTown Port Pirie.
He is a young dad of two and deals with a lot - his youngest child was born with Cystic Fibrosis.
Joe had a lot of barriers to overcome, especially dependence on alcohol; this caused him a lot of personal heartaches, and was a big hindrance to his finding employment.
This year Joe had a huge turnaround because of specialised help from a visiting psychologist. Fortnightly appointments have made all the difference.
Joe has now gained his Driver’s Licence, bought a car and finally found a job at Primo Abattoirs. It is an 80 minute drive to work every day, so the driver’s licence was crucial.
That means so much, ‘cause my Mum and Grandmother just said “You’ll never keep it, you’ll lose your licence.” I am going to prove them wrong. Joe.
At BoysTown we never give up on young people. We persevere and stand by young people like Joe as they change their lives and achieve their dreams.
