Reaching for the stars

BoysTown’s Community Learning Program graduate Nicole Hugh plans to inspire the next generation with what she’s learnt.

LEARN. WORK. INSPIRE.

Nicole didn’t think much about the future as a young woman. Not knowing what to do when she left school, she worked in a factory. But now, as a mother of an eight, six and one year old, she has set out to improve her life and provide the right example for her kids.

She had always been interested in aged care and caring for the elderly is an important part of her Samoan heritage.

When the opportunity came up to join our program she grabbed it with both hands.

Graduating with both a Certificate III in Aged Care and a Certificate III in Home and Community Care, Nicole is keen to use what’s she’s learnt to inspire her own children’s futures.

I know it sounds silly, but just having the Certificates on my resume makes me feel valued. It’s something I can be proud of and show my kids and encourage them to do things that they want to do – tell them they can reach for the stars. Nicole Hugh
