Supporting young families
Parenting is a difficult job and a juggling act no matter what. It requires balancing your own needs with those of your child. For young parents it can be especially challenging.
HELP. SUPPORT. COUNSELLING.
Amy* was just 17 when she fell pregnant. Her parents rejected her and forced her to leave home. By the time her daughter was born she was isolated and alone. She felt trapped and suffered from post-natal depression.
It took time but eventually friends convinced her to visit our Young Parents Program in Deception Bay.
Our young parents programs are centres for personal development and empowerment for young Mums and Dads and their children. We support them to reach their full potential.
Since coming to BoysTown Amy’s life has turned around. She is now optimistic about the future and enjoys being a mother.
Everyone here is so positive and they have really helped me change my thinking. I now look at my life and realise all the great things motherhood has given me. Amy
Today, Amy’s future is bright. After giving birth to a son, she is busy looking after her two children and preparing to study teaching at university.
BoysTown’s Young Parents Support programs helped 104 parents and 119 children in Queensland and South Australia last year. Let us know your thoughts on how BoysTown changes lives. Comment below.
